Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1971 Porsche 911 r-gruppe tribute. Fresh from a two-year, no-expense-spared restoration — virtually everything on this 911 is new or rebuilt with eye towards detail and drivability. Only driven 300 miles since completed. Our starting point was a ’71 911T non-sunroof coupe originally finished in Irish Green, an appealing color that we chose to retain. The body was stripped down to a bare shell, any rust was remediated by J3 restoration, a marque specialist outside of Nashville, before going into final paint and body work. The tub retains its original floor pans and exterior panels with the exception of butt-welded steel flares, steel S front air dam and fiberglass rear RS bumper. A “nut and bolt” restoration ensued with refurbished systems front to back including all new suspension components, brakes, hoses, correct hardware, refurbished climate control, heating and virtually every seal or piece of rubber. Powered by a freshly built SC 3.0 bumped to 3.2 liters (with build documentation) running CIS and front oil cooler. Rebuilt 915 gearbox. New interior with restored gauges by Palo Alto Speedometer — note the 10k RPM tach, Heuer clock face, and backdated electronic speedometer which allows it to work with the “modern” 915 gearbox. Recaro seats with houndstooth inserts, wool square weave RS carpet by Autobahn interiors, refinished and leather-wrapped 380mm steering wheel. Note the attractive and understated contrast stitching on the wheel and dash. Exterior details include RS-style striping by Bob Tilton, RSR finished wheels (15×7 and 8 with new tires), through-the-grille fog lights (NOS Cibie Tango 40s) and new Euro lenses. Nicely detailed front trunk, engine bay and underside; we chose to retain factory dual battery boxes and installed a larger 21 gallon fuel tank with collapsible spare for those long rally runs. As good as this car looks, it drives even better (see video) — it’s light, tight and very fast yet has a “put together” feel and is comfortable on the road. Extensive restoration records and photographs accompany the sale. For more information about this 1971 Porsche 911 RS hotrod for sale at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, please call 404-692-5250.
